St John Fisher School aims to create a safe and secure learning environment for all students.

Our Aims:
To provide a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment that cares for the social, physical and moral development of the individual child. The governing body takes seriously its legal duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and to work together with other agencies in so doing. To provide an environment in which pupils feel safe, secure, valued and respected; and where they feel confident and know how to approach responsible adults if they are in difficulties.
To develop effective working relationships with all other agencies involved in safeguarding children.

Procedures and Responsibilities:
As a school we place the safeguarding of our students with the highest priority. We ensure that all staff within the school have a current and valid enhanced ‘Disclosure and Barring Service’ check (formally called a ‘Criminal Records Bureau’ check.) All staff are obliged to undertake mandatory training each year to refresh and renew their understanding of their legal obligations with respect to the safeguarding of student within the school. The training provided is consistent with Medway Safeguarding Children Board’s standards, in order to develop the understanding of the signs and indicators of abuse, and knowledge regarding what to do if a member of staff feels a child may be suffering abuse.
