World Book Day 2018
March 1, 2018
St. John Fisher School will be celebrating World Book Day next Thursday, 1st March. This year’s celebrations will be Harry Potter themed to tie in with the 20th anniversary of the first Harry Potter novel’s publication. Students will undertake a range of different activities to explore the world of Harry Potter and consider different critical angles of the series.
As part of our celebrations, we invite all students in years 7 to 13 to dress up as a character from a favourite novel, short story or graphic novel. Although we would be delighted to see our students in Harry Potter themed fancy dress, this is not a requirement of the day; any suitable character is welcome. If students do not wish to dress up, they must come in school uniform. Students are also welcome to bring in a copy of their favourite novel to discuss in form time.
A voluntary donation of £1 is suggested for those who come in fancy dress. All contributions will be donated to Book Trust, a charity that aims to provide all children in the U.K. with the best start to their reading journey, regardless of their background. The creative writing club (CREW Club) will also be hosting a bake sale in the area outside the Upper Site hall at lunch time so students may wish to bring extra money with them to purchase one of their delicious cakes. All proceeds from the bake sale will be used to support the CREW Club’s extra-curricular activities.
Lastly, we would like to remind students that usual clothing requirements must be adhered to: no low necklines, overly short skirts or offensive slogans should be worn.
Thank you for all your support in celebrating World Book Day – we look forward to seeing students’ fancy dress creations! If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
