We are very proud to be part of the Chatham Deanery and work with schools in our area in various ways.
Chatham Deanery Retreat Day
Within our school’s Catholic Community, retreats provide the opportunity and space for our staff and students to take a step back from their daily life, reflect and develop their spiritual formation and physical wellbeing.
On the 23rd April, staff from the Deanery’s Catholic Primary schools joined us for our first ever staff Retreat and Wellbeing Day. Over 200 staff were present to take part and the aim of the day was to deepen the understanding of the mission of the Church in education, to help staff understand how they can contribute to the Catholic life of the school, and to recognise that spiritual development of staff is part of the educational responsibilities of schools, so that they can then guide the spiritual development of our students.
The day started with an inspirational talk from Canon Luiz Ruscillo, who down from Lancaster to share the day with us. Staff then moved on to various workshops which included activities such as yoga, flower arranging, drumming, arts and crafts along with more vigorous activities such as circuit training and boxing.
Later on in the day, a Concelebrated Mass was delivered by Dean Bart along with Father Baker, Canon Luiz Ruscillo and Deacon Jim.
To complete the day, lunch was served where all staff discussed and shared their experiences from the day.
The day was a great success and prepared staff to welcome students back to school after the Easter break. We would like to thank all of the event organisers, as well as every staff member who joined us for such a wonderful and meaningful day.
Chatham Deanery Citizenship Awards
This annual event is held at SJF and every Catholic school in the Deanery is invited to submit a student for an award. The awards go beyond celebrating academic excellence by commemorating those who have truly espoused gospel values. Past recipients have been nominated for services to charity, helping their peers and running prayer groups, among numerous other efforts.
Deanery Games events are held at SJF so that local primary schools can come together and compete against each other in sporting events. Here is a report from the 2018 games:
On Wednesday 19th September 2018, St John Fisher Catholic School hosted the Deanery Games. The event involved six primary schools from the Deanery and forty Year 8, 9 and 10 students from St John Fisher Catholic School.
Ten students from each school participated in the Olympic inspired events run by the St John Fisher Catholic School students. All schools competed with great passion and determination to do their school proud.
The winning team were also presented with the winning shield. After engraving the winning school’s name, this will be presented to the school by Mr Gough.
We are also proud to send student representatives to Deanery Masses such as the one marking the start of the 2018-19 school year below:
