Curriculum Outline
- Key Stage 3
- Within Key Stage 3, students focus on four core topics including number, algebra, shape and space and data handling. Topics are covered using a wide variety of texts and resources.
Improving numeracy is incorporated into each topic in addition to building the skills required for Key Stage 4, such as problem-solving and understanding mathematical concepts. - Drop-In Maths Support available after school on Tuesdays in SB3 (3:15 pm to 3:45 pm)
- Within Key Stage 3, students focus on four core topics including number, algebra, shape and space and data handling. Topics are covered using a wide variety of texts and resources.
- Key Stage 4:
- students follow either the higher or foundation programme, covering a range of topics, including number, shape, algebra, statistics, geometry and measure. Students focus on worded problems and continue to develop the skills required to understand mathematical concepts.
- Key Stage 5:
- Students follow a two-year programme and are entered for formal examinations in the second year of the course.
- Year 1 – Students are assessed internally on two written papers for Pure Mathematics (9 topics) and Applied Mathematics comprising of Statistics (5 topics) and Mechanics (3 topics)
- Year 2 – Students complete the programme for Pure Mathematics (10 topics) and Applied Mathematics consisting of Statistics (5 topics) and Mechanics (4 topics).
The end of the course culminates with external examinations for what was covered in Year 1 and Year 2 in three written papers: Pure Mathematics 1, Pure Mathematics 2 and Statistics & Mechanics. Each paper represents a third of the component for the overall assessment.
